in the balance this morning. today, city college of san francisco turns accreditation report, the school needs a passing grade to stay open. katie marzullo joins us live from the newsroom with a college divided. >> everyone wants city college to stay open. 90,000 students are counting on it and faculty and staff want to keep their jobs. the groups cannot agree on how to keep the doors open. that is the administration versus the students and the staff on the the deadline they protested and chanted and shouted. the commission for community and junior colleges put city college on notice back in judgment saying they had too many problems with leadership and fiscal plans. the college has been making changes ever since and a spokesman says they have stream laned the administration and added more financial accountability. >> the accreditation reform process is unwinding many, many years of behavior that just absolutely needed to be changed or could not be afforded. >> the situation and all about equity. >> students and staff say this were alternates to the cutbacks including $16 million city college

-involved shootings on march 2nd in san francisco, san jose, and union city, and one occurred the next day, involving hayward police. >> right through a few dozen people are without power no san francisco. a small explosion took out a pg&e line this morning. nearly 3700 people were without power. it's been mostly restored. pg&e says there are 76 people remain without power at this time. shopkeepers said it slowed down the usually brisk saturday business. >> like a bomb, and then the light went off. usually we have a lot of people come by, buy eggs, break fast, and then we serve coffee until the coffee is gone. >> pg&e is still not sure what caused the outage. the downed line forced muni to switch to gas-powerrerred buss in the area. >>> they were cleaning up today in oakland after poeters vandalized five banks on franklin avenue last night, and also shattered a large window at the tribune tower. the damage was caused during what organizers called a march against capitalism and police resuppression. -- repression. police say no one was arrested and there were no injuries. >> family and friends of sier

is tracking a new storm that will arrive tonight. that is raising concerns in the san francisco neighborhood where several sinkholes have formed. now we learn what is happening. >> right now, it is very quiet but no one will be watching the sky more closely today than neighbors out here in this west portal neighborhood of san francisco. the big fear is that forecasted rain and how it might impact the already growing sinkhole problem out here. the problem right now, we can tell you, there are up to five sinkholes and it started last wednesday when a city water main broke causing gushing water to trigger the holes. now, homes in the area in some cases are slowly caving into the ground, 12 have been damaged and up to four are now red tagged and they are simply not livable. private insurance companies of the homeowners say that they don't plan to help. the city is having to step up and help homeowners with the repairs. >> structural fixes for the things that might be settlement cracks or things like that, those we will pay. >> it could be a big repair bill in some cases. the neighborhood was ori

bart police, san francisco police and firefighters arrived, they found a homeless man in the elevator shaft. bart police say they also found a few other items on scene. >> bart police sergeant on scene did report that bedding and personal effects were found on top of the elevator car. now, whether those belonged to the man who is deceased or to someone else, and whether someone had been, you know, living in the shaft for a period of time, hopefully will be determined by the investigation. >> reporter: police say it appears the man was sleeping at the top and was crushed to death. he was found wedged between the elevator and the wall of the shaft. investigators are still trying to determine how that homeless man got into the shaft in the first place and apparently -- or how long had he been living there or if he had been living there at all. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, kpix 5. >> there were no delays on bart or muni as a result of this investigation. >>> family and friends are searching for an oakland woman missing for five

. the san francisco public utilities commission is headed out to a field office in the west portal neighborhood where a water main broke. the city is taking extraordinary steps for those residents. however, a flood victim isn't happy with the treatment that he is getting. heather? >> the break here in west portal was unusual for the scope of the damage but watter pipe breaks are not exactly rare. there are 1200 miles of water pipe in this city, 200 miles of it more than a century old and at least one neighborhood has its own unique problem with pipes. repairs and testing rb going on here for months, maybe years. the san francisco p.u.c. will be opening a field office on west portal avenue to meet the needs. three homes are red tagged and might not be listed again. 23 homes were damaged by the february 27th water main break. >> with construction project swrez a field office but this is, i would say unusual we want to be here for the community. >> there is nowhere for water to go but up. >> it's a different story at the site of another water pipe break. >> it became a lake down here.

one san francisco neighborhood needs. sinkholes are opening up all over after a big water main break in west portal. homeowners are in an awful mess. >> reporter: it is a heartbreaking situation for this couple. three months ago they bought a beautiful home on 15th avenue, renovated the entire property, then heard the sound of water late tuesday night. it was 30 inches deep in their living room as they finally got downstairs. the city's water line had burst under ground. soil has washed away. homes have been red-tagged as unlivable. but the city is trying to help everyone. >> it's very unsettling. it's a horrible thing. not good. at the same time, we're doing our best to try to be responsive. and i've had a number of the homeowners say they appreciate what we're doing. nobody wants to be through this. we want to work together to get to a good solution for everybody. >> reporter: homeowners are now in the process of temporarily moving out. they've been thanking san francisco's water department employees, calling them very respo

street in san francisco bicyclist get full use of the roadway and apparently everything else there has been talk about limiting private vehicle access on polk street as part of the city's transit first policy however maybe we should include bicycle training first, like telling bicylist to read signs like this one that reads skateboard and bicycle riding prohibited on sidewalk a sign ignored by many riders but what really amazed me was the sheer amount of riders that run the red lights on polk like this riders and this rider also watch this rider, he has the red light so he rides his bike in the crosswalk another no no then still runs the light in the crosswalk followed by riding against traffic and finally riding on the sidewalk it wasn't hard to find people riding their bikes in the crosswalk where they should dismount and walk now i personally would never think about running the red light on any street but on busy california yup it happened it was this guy he is half way into the intersection and waits and while the light is still red there he goes it is interesting bike behaviour o
